Episode 9 ( playdio.com show id 5050580994416 )
A 9 track spoken word album (11m 11s) — released May 14th 2012 on Playdio
April 30th is the first annual International Jazz Day. This celebration is the brainchild of Chicago native Herbie Hancock; the man that brought us "Watermelon Man" and "Rockit." The idea, says UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, is to "celebrate and learn more about heart of jazz, its roots and its impact." On this episode of Radio M, Tony celebrates International Jazz Day with a live performance from Grazyna Auguscik and Paulinho Garcia. Grazyna was born in Poland and Paulinho was born in Brazil, but both call Chicago home. They've been collaborating for about a dozen years and have just released an album of Beatles covers call "The Beatles Nova."
Also on the show: new music from Chicha Libre, some soul from 1960's South Africa, a track from Iranian artist Googoosh and a super cool band from Chicago called Gunnelpumpers. This episode originally aired on April 27th, 2012 on Chicago Public Radio 91.5 FM.
